Description
This coffee is grown in Kerinci Regency, in Sumatra’s Jambi Province, on small family plots around Mount Kerinci, the highest volcano in Indonesia. It is wet-hulled (“giling basah”), the process behind the classic Indonesian profile: heavy body, low acidity and deep, earthy-sweet notes. Grown in Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province, Sumatra, Indonesia Altitude 1,300–1,650 m Varieties Bourbon, Catimor, Gayo, S-795 Process Wet-hulled (giling basah) Harvest October–December Soil Volcanic loam In wet hulling, cherries are depulped, fermented overnight, washed and briefly dried. The parchment layer is then hulled off while the bean is still moist, and the bean finishes drying on patios. That’s what gives Sumatran green coffee its bluish-green color. The growers belong to the Kopi Alam Kerinci (ALKO) cooperative. Their farms form a buffer zone for Kerinci Seblat National Park, home to the Sumatran tiger. Bag sizes: 1 lb, 5 lb and 15 lb. Store sealed in a cool, dry, dark place. FAQ What is wet hulling? The parchment is removed while the bean is still moist, then the bean dries on its own. It’s unique to Indonesia and gives the heavy, earthy Sumatra character. Why do the beans look bluish? That color comes from the wet-hulling process. Is this coffee roasted? No. It’s green, unroasted coffee for home roasting.
