Coffee was taken to Java and planted but ended up dying soon afterwards. Later a successful planting was made but in early 1800’s a leaf rust epidemic almost wiped out all of the Java coffee plants. However, the Dutch soon planted another varietal of Arabica that was resistant to the disease. It is from these Arabica plantations that we get our Java coffee today.
