Description

Colombia Bomba de Fruta – La Claudina Natural Bomba de Fruta translates to “fruit bomb,” and this natural-processed microlot from producer Juan Saldarriaga lives up to the name. Grown at La Claudina in Ciudad Bolívar, Antioquia, this intensely fruit-forward Colombian coffee offers pronounced notes of strawberry, kiwi, raspberry, and pineapple hard candy. The bold fruit character is closely tied to the coffee’s carefully controlled post-harvest processing. After harvest, the cherries are floated and hand-sorted to remove defects before undergoing a 48-hour fermentation. They are then mechanically dried for 72 hours using a cold dryer that controls airflow and humidity. This combination of fermentation and controlled drying helps develop the coffee’s intense sweetness and expressive fruit character. Origin: Ciudad Bolívar, Antioquia, Colombia Producer: Juan Saldarriaga Farm: La Claudina Process: Natural Varieties: Castillo, Tabi, Colombia Elevation: 1,300–1,800 meters (approximately 4,265–5,906 feet) Tasting Notes: Strawberry • Kiwi • Raspberry • Pineapple Hard Candy Juan Saldarriaga began managing his family’s coffee farms in 2012 and has since focused on specialty coffee production and refining post-harvest processing techniques. Bomba de Fruta is produced at La Claudina and showcases that focus through a deliberately managed fermentation and drying process designed to bring out an exceptionally expressive fruit profile. For home coffee roasters, Bomba de Fruta offers a distinctly different side of Colombian coffee. Rather than the more familiar chocolate, caramel, and nut-driven profiles associated with many Colombian coffees, this lot is all about bright fruit, concentrated sweetness, and the character created through its carefully managed processing.
